What is “We call it Ballet”?
We call it Ballet is an innovative ballet production that reimagines popular ballets, allowing audiences to be fully immersed in the show’s story. It incorporates classical music and choreography with changing LED lights, bringing timeless storylines to life in a visual and emotive feast. This season, the show offers a dynamic performance of The Sleeping Beauty, one of Tchaikovsky’s most beloved and celebrated works.
Ballet, its storytelling and the show
In a kingdom far far away, Princess Aurora is cursed to slumber for a hundred years, her fate determined by a prick of a spindle. The whole land falls still, but will the princess’ enchanted sleep ever come to an end? Well, not all hope is lost for a brave prince cuts through the thorny bramble of the castle’s highest tower and wakes the beautiful princess and love triumphs over the darkness (spoiler alert).
The Sleeping Beauty is both a timeless tale and an iconic ballet and although we’ve seen countless productions, We call it Ballet adds another layer of magic for Kansas City audiences to enjoy. With incredible pointe work, elegant moves, a helpful narrator and not to mention, the twinkling lights sewn into the dancers’ costumes, it makes for an unforgettable and immersive experience you won’t forget any time soon.
Ballet uses the universal language of movement but We call it Ballet in Kansas City goes beyond that, adding glimmering lights to convey emotions, the characters and plot without a single word. The show is coming to the Gem Theater soon with two back-to-back performances on the evening of the show, scheduled for 6:30 pm and 9:00 pm.
